Project Summary:

Construction of 23 social housing units including refurbishment of a listed building.

Further Information on the project:

Located in a densely populated residential inner city area in Belfast as well as an historical interface point, the regeneration of this former Central Tuberculosis Institute site provides a mix of apartments for the elderly along with 11 family homes.

Having laid dormant for many years the B1 listed building was comprehensively remodelled and carefully restored. Deteriorated building fabric such as brickwork, stone sills and lintels, cornicing, mouldings, sliding sash windows and the ornate staircase were sympathetically restored or replaced. In consultation with the NIEA we took a conservation-led approach to this redevelopment helping to safeguard the building’s character and heritage, for example we reused as much existing brick and slates as possible.

The homes were constructed in a sustainable manner using products and processes that had a reduced impact on the environment and providing lower running costs for the end user.
