Daisyfield Road Ribbon Cutting with Mayor of Derry City Ruairi McHugh

We welcomed The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane Council, Ruairi McHugh to our Daisyfield Road Project on Letterkenny Road to mark the opening of the development.

New Daisyfield Court Homes Officially Opened with Community Celebration on Letterkenny Road

The new Daisyfield Court housing development in Derry City was officially opened today at a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by the Mayor of Derry City and Strabane, Councillor Ruairí McHugh.

Situated on the Letterkenny Road, the event brought together residents, community representatives, and project partners to celebrate the completion of the development, which provides 40 new social homes for the city. The scheme includes a mix of apartments designed to meet a wide range of needs, including own-door duplex homes, Category 1 apartments, general needs accommodation, and four own-door wheelchair-accessible apartments.

As the Design and Build contractor, GEDA placed strong emphasis on community engagement throughout the delivery of the scheme. Local organisations that worked alongside the project team were invited to attend the official opening and take part in the commemorative photograph. As part of GEDA’s social value commitments, donations were made to Derry Samaritans and the Gasyard Community Centre, while Long Tower Youth Club was supported through the provision of sports equipment to help enhance opportunities for young people within the local area.

During construction, GEDA worked closely with Long Tower Primary School to ensure the project delivered positive educational and community outcomes alongside the new homes. Pupils were involved in a hoarding artwork initiative, helping to foster a sense of local ownership, while child-friendly health and safety talks were delivered by the project team with support from GEDA’s mascot, “GEDA Goodbear,” reinforcing safe working practices in an engaging and accessible way.

The project was completed to a high standard, achieving an outstanding score of 45 out of 45 under the Considerate Constructors Scheme, reflecting the team’s commitment to being respectful neighbours and creating a positive impact in the local area.

Damian Murray, Build Director at GEDA commented:

“We are proud to officially hand over Daisyfield Court on the Letterkenny Road on behalf of our valued client, Radius. The project has been delivered to an exceptional standard, with energy-efficient construction methods that will help ensure long-term affordability and comfort for residents. Beyond the high-quality homes created, this scheme demonstrates our continued commitment to building vibrant, sustainable communities that leave a lasting, positive impact on the local area.”

Denise Quinn, Senior Head of Development at Radius Housing, said:

“This development is about real delivery for a city that has an acute housing need. Radius Housng’s Letterkenny Road development will provide safe, high-quality homes for individuals and families who need them most, right in the heart of Derry. The mix of homes here, including accessible and wheelchair-designed accommodation, reflects our commitment to meeting a wide range of housing needs and ensuring people can live independently and with dignity.”

“Our mission is to ensure that people all across Northern Ireland can live good lives in their communities, and to respond to whatever needs those communities might have. Developments like this show what can be achieved through strong partnerships and sustained investment, and we’re proud to play our part in supporting Derry’s growth, inclusion and long-term wellbeing.”

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane, Councillor Ruairí McHugh, added:

“It is a pleasure to officially open Daisyfield Court development on the Letterkenny Road, and to see such a positive example of how social housing can be delivered with quality, accessibility and community at its heart. The development will be a welcome addition to the area and a place where residents can feel proud to live.”

The completion of the project marks an important milestone in the provision of modern, energy-efficient social housing in Derry City, delivering long-term benefits for residents and the wider community. This development will provide safe, accessible homes for residents for many years to come.
