GEDA Receives Platinum Award and Top Performing Business at BITC NI Environmental Benchmarking Survey!
GEDA recently achieved “Top Performing Business Status” as a new entry to the NI Environmental Benchmarking Survey.
We have been recognised as the top-performing new participant in the 2024 Survey, achieving a platinum level award!
The NI Environmental Benchmarking Survey is a premier initiative in Northern Ireland, engaging organisations from various sectors to assess environmental performance. This annual self-assessment is open to both business in the community members and non-members.
Participation allows organisations to showcase their commitment to environmental responsibility and transparency. The process helps participants evaluate their performance, identify areas for improvement, and benchmark against others.
At the Titanic Belfast on Wednesday 20th November, over 200 sustainability professionals from Northern Ireland’s leading environmentally focused organisations gathered to celebrate the survey results and explore climate action trends shared by businesses committed to the climate action pledge.
We would also like to congratulate Northern Ireland Housing Executive on achieving their platinum award. We recently delivered Sunningdale Gardens on their behalf; an energy efficient scheme built to Passive House Standards.

GEDA WIN TWO AWARDS AT ICE SOUTH WEST FOR SEVERN HAM WATERMAINS REPLACEMENT SCHEME
GEDA were the proud winners of two awards at the ICE South West Awards. The Collaboration Award and the Project Under £8 Million Re-Engineered Award were granted for GEDA’s role in the Severn Ham Watermains Replacement Scheme for client Severn Trent Water.
This project was incredibly technically complicated and was delivered to an impeccable standard alongside supply chain members, G&V Gallagher, client Severn Trent, Jacobs designers and land surveyors Dalcour Maclaren.
The project consisted of replacing 1.3km of existing twin 30-inch diameter watermains across two meadows in Tewskebury in Gloucestershire. Four connection interventions were also delivered within separate 24-hour windows.
Some challenges and interesting aspects of this scheme include the fact that the area is a Site of Special Scientific Interest with curlews and other nesting birds present. It is also a floodplain bounded by both the River Severn and the River Avon, and is prone to flooding with as little as 24hours warning.
CEF SUCCESS FOR DURHAM STREET
At the Construction Excellence Awards recently we won the Social Housing Award for our Durham Street project! On the night the Mourne Wall Restoration project was also shortlisted for the Partnering Award and Durham Street for the Overall Winner Award. Our Strelley project team were also shortlisted in their category!
DOUBLE SUCCESS FOR MOURNE WALL PROJECT AT RICS AWARDS
The Mourne Wall Restoration Project had double success at the recent Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) NI Awards. The project received the Building Conservation Award and was also crowned the overall winner of all categories as the prestigious Project of the Year 2019.
Northern Ireland’s most innovative and community beneficial property projects competed for the top honours at the annual RICS Awards. The ‘Project of the Year’ title is presented to the scheme which demonstrates overall outstanding best practice and an exemplary commitment to adding value to its local area. RICS judges commended the collaboration between stakeholders to overcome the many challenges in completing the project, whilst working to minimise impact on the environment so future generations can continue to enjoy this exceptional landmark.
The extensive project was delivered for client NI Water by Geda Construction along with RPS, Mourne Heritage Trust, Thomas Rooney & Sons Stone Masons and Skyhook Helicopters. The £1.6m project took place in the stunning Mourne Mountains and involved descendants of the original wall builders. The project consisted of over 600 repairs along the entire 22 mile wall length and has restored the wall back to the original condition as it would have been over 100 years ago. With a shared understanding and agreement of a common goal the project team worked together and showed the power of persistence- reflecting the qualities of the hardy original Mourne Stone Masons.
The Mourne Wall Restoration Project is now through to the RICS UK Grand final in London in October where the project will compete against the very best projects from all over the UK to be crowned overall UK Winner.
LABC BUILDING EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2019
We recently received the Local Area Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Award for Best Social or Affordable New Housing Development for the second year running. This year our project at Strelley Court, Nottingham received the award and our winner last year was Knights Close, Billesdon.
The LABC Awards are the largest business to business awards in the building control sector and recognise quality in all types of building project.
ALL IRELAND SAFETY AWARDS
The Annual Occupational Safety Awards run in conjunction with the Northern Ireland Safety Group (NISG) recognise how organisations manage health and safety at work. The many entrants that participate in the awards, including a large number of repeat entrants, is testament to the quality of the process, the high regard that the awards command and the value it brings.
We are delighted with winning this award and will continue to set high HSEQ standards. Mary Tierney HSEQ Officer received the award on behalf of GEDA and the HSEQ team at the ‘All Ireland Safety Awards’ in Killarney, Ireland.
CE SUSTAINABILITY AWARD 2018
Delighted to have won the ICE Sustainability Award for the stunning Mourne Wall restoration project.
The wall is a protected structure which surrounds the reservoirs within the Mournes Mountains. The project comprises of the restoration of 22 miles of Mourne Wall to its original condition for client NI Water. Works include the rebuilding of sections of the wall which have either partially or fully collapsed, the restoration of areas where erosion has occurred, exposing foundations of the wall and posing a risk to its structural integrity.
