Meet our current Apprentices…

Why would you recommend an apprenticeship?

I would definitely recommend an apprenticeship, as day in day out I am hands-on with so many different aspects of house building and groundwork.

Seeing all of this every day really helps my learning and understanding, how and why things are done in certain ways and sequences of work.

Why choose GEDA?

Good competitive salary, plenty of support and people to reach out to with questions and queries. I feel independent – I am free to work off my own initiative and to work proactively.

GEDA are also big on teamwork, individuals working together pushing each other to do better together.

What sparked your interest in the Construction/Civil Engineering industry?

A family member actually works here and I took an interest in the large schemes he was involved in and getting work completed.

He referred me to GEDA, I had my interview and I am now in my second year of my apprenticeship, continuing with learning and my HNC qualification at SMB College.

Why would you recommend an apprenticeship?

I am studying at South West College, I chose to do an apprenticeship as I am a practical learner, and I felt the experience of being on-site would give me a better understanding of what it is like rather than going to Uni and staring at books all day.

The knowledge you gain from learning first-hand is like no other. Getting paid is also good too! I attend

Why choose GEDA?

I chose GEDA after what I had heard from others. I felt it offered the best experience for apprenticeships. I had a look at their website, which showed their many awards and their core values as a company.

What sparked your interest in the Construction/Civil Engineering industry?

I’ve always had an interest in engineering and construction as I’ve worked on sites before. I also have multiple family members who are engineers.

I also like the fact that it is a job that will always be needed, no matter where I go.

Why would you recommend an apprenticeship?

By choosing the apprenticeship route it has allowed me to get on-site experience which I would not get if I was to do the full-time university course.

It will also allow me to get my chartership quicker.

Why choose GEDA?

I choose GEDA as it is an expanding company with plenty of different opportunities across the construction industry and everyone is very approachable and eager to help.

What sparked your interest in the Construction/Civil Engineering industry?

I have always been interested in construction from a young age and enjoyed learning more about it as I got older.

Why would you recommend an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship offers a variety of benefits. You can learn on the job and earn a wage, whilst gaining valuable work experience. Plus you’ll have the opportunity to develop industry-specific skills and potentially secure a job after completing your apprenticeship.

It’s a win-win for me!

What sparked your interest in the Construction/Civil Engineering industry?

I have always been drawn to the Civils side with my fascination on how structures are built and the impact they have on our everyday lives. I enjoy the problem-solving aspect of civil engineering and the opportunity to make a positive impact on the world through infrastructure development.

Why would you recommend an apprenticeship?

I would recommend an apprenticeship as you get first-hand experience of the job role, alongside going to Southern Regional College one day a week at , and you’re making money, which I believe is a far better route than to going to University full time.

Why choose GEDA?

I would highly recommend GEDA as it is such a good environment to work in as they guide you at each step. GEDA also gives you more responsibility as you continue to develop in your role which helps you further improve your knowledge and skills.

What sparked your interest in the Construction/Civil Engineering industry?

My interest in construction sparked when I was young as my father is a Bricklayer, I always had an interest from that. I took a year out before starting my course and worked on a building site with him, that’s when I knew I wanted to be a Quantity Surveyor.

Why would you recommend an apprenticeship?

I would recommend an apprenticeship as it offers valuable on the job training, whilst learning both practical and theoretical skills in your chosen field of study (SMB College Group).

Why choose GEDA?

At my time with GEDA, I have found a supportive, welcoming team with many years of experience in the construction industry. This has allowed me to learn, grow and expand my career with a progressing company, feeling like a valued member.

What sparked your interest in the Construction/Civil Engineering industry?

Engineering sparked my interest as each day is different and being able to use technology such as CAD and an EDM stimulates my initiative, creativity, collaboration, and leadership attributes while learning in aid to support the progression of the project.
