There is major demand for civil engineering skills. The Work+ apprenticeship is your first step into this growing industry and your chance to make a difference in people’s lives. Apprenticeships are offered from BTEC to Master’s degree level.

Apprentices will be released from the workplace one day a week to receive training tailored to your needs at one of the six Further Education colleges or Ulster University in partnership with Work+ (see right).

What do you need to apply?

The entry requirements for potential apprentices pursuing Level 3 (BTEC) are a minimum of five GCSEs grade A*-C, including English, Maths (Grade B or above desirable) and Science. Essential Skills Literacy Level 2 may be accepted in place of GCSE English. You can still apply if you are sitting your exams later this year. Entry levels for Level 5 (Foundation Degree) and degree level apprenticeships are set by the FE College or University you plan to attend.

Location: East Midlands
DUTIES & JOB ROLE

We require a Graduate / Site Engineer to work on building projects within the East Midlands.  The successful candidate must have either a building / construction engineering honours degree.  A current clean driving licence is essential for the post.

Essential criteria:

  • Degree qualification (honours) in building / construction engineering.
  • 1-2 years experience.
  • Ability to manage electronic information, including using CAD, MS Project and other Microsoft programmes and setting out using an EDM.
  • Excellent communication skills and good general commercial awareness.

DUTIES & JOB ROLE

To complement our existing Civils Department based at Head Office, the applicants must be degree qualified and have experience in money recovery, main forms of contract, valuations and sub-contractor appointment.

Essential criteria:

  • A degree qualified (honours) graduate in quantity surveying, or a related construction discipline, with a minimum of 1-3 years experience
  • Experience in procurement, measurement and finalisation of sub-contracts
  • Experience in dealing with Client’s representatives
  • Experience of producing valuations / final accounts
  • Experience of confirming / agreeing / pricing variations
  • A current clean driving licence and access to a car is essential
  • Competent in MS Excel & Word
  • Desirable Criteria:

Bid Writer

DUTIES & JOB ROLE

Based at Head Office and reporting to the Business Development Manager, this person will be involved in all aspects of the bid writing process ensuring that PQQs and Tender submissions are prepared to the highest standards.

Due to continued growth we have an exciting opportunity for a Bid Writer to join our Business Development Team.

Based at Head Office and reporting to the Business Development Manager, this person will be involved in all aspects of the bid writing process ensuring that PQQs and Tender submissions are prepared to the highest standards.

Key responsibilities:

  • To write high-quality, high-scoring written responses for PQQ and ITT submissions, occasionally to multiple simultaneous deadlines
  • Attend bid preparation meetings to gain high-quality written tender input
  • Prepare for & attend tender interviews / presentations
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders
  • Collecting and writing evidence from projects, including site visits & case studies
  • Updating key company / bid information
  • Support the Bid Team when required
  • Represent Geda at Business Development events

Essential criteria

  • Industry specific knowledge of Bid Writing
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and copy-writing skills
  • Excellent vocabulary, grammar and communication skills
  • Strong IT skills, in particular MS Word, PowerPoint / presentation preparation, WordPress
  • Experience of working within a team environment
  • Excellent time management and project planning ability to enable working on multiple projects with external deadlines

Desirable criteria

  • Minimum of 3 years in a similar role
  • Proven track record within the civil & / or construction industry
  • Previous work experience preferably with a Main Contractor

QS/Estimator
Location: Dungannon
DUTIES & JOB ROLE

Due to continued growth we wish to recruit an experienced individual to handle tendering for the Company. Based at our Head Office in N Ireland, this is an excellent opportunity for the right person to develop their career into a key role for a progressive Construction Engineering Company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Appraisal of tender documents
  • Completion & submission of tender documentation
  • Value engineering of tender proposal
  • Prepare budgets and cost plans
  • Attending strategy/opportunity meetings with project team
  • Ensure a smooth handover of the project to the site team
  • Review & report tender performance on an ongoing basis

Skills Required

  • Degree qualified / 3rd level qualification in Construction or Quantity Surveying
  • 3-6 years previous experience as a QS / Estimator preferably with a main contractor
  • IT literate with a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office packages
  • Working knowledge of forms of contract such as NEC3 and JCT
  • Experience in Conquest or similar construction specific estimating package
  • Experience of pricing a variety of construction projects
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret drawings and technical specifications
  • Good organisation, communication, negotiating and analytical skills
  • Must have the ability to plan work around deadlines
