GEDA Begins Construction of New Lidl Store in Coleraine

We are pleased to announce the commencement of Lidl Northern Ireland's largest regional store project in Coleraine. This new development, located in the Riverside Retail Park next to the existing store, will create 18 new jobs for the local community. Upon completion, this will be the fourth store that GEDA has successfully delivered for our esteemed client, further strengthening our ongoing partnership.

Construction is now underway to build a brand-new ‘Concept’ Lidl Northern Ireland store in Coleraine.

As a result of this significant local investment, at least 18 new jobs will be created, bringing the total team employed at the store to 40. In addition, the project is expected to generate around 200 jobs in various sectors, including design, construction, landscaping, and other related services.

The new store will be relocated to a larger site within the Riverside Retail Park in Coleraine, where it has operated since 2005. Spanning a substantial 2,475 square metres with a 1,752 square metre sales floor, the new store will become the largest Lidl Northern Ireland location in the region when it opens next spring.

The new store will feature a modern ‘Concept’ design, including wider aisles and advanced energy efficiency systems, in line with Lidl’s commitment to sustainability.

The development will also include enhanced parking facilities for 152 vehicles and two electric vehicle charging points, further reflecting Lidl Northern Ireland’s dedication to sustainability and improving the customer shopping experience.

This Coleraine store represents Lidl Northern Ireland’s latest investment in the northwest and will mark the GEDA’s fourth commercial project with the client.

Team GEDA had the pleasure of meeting the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Ciarán McQuillan, stating:

“This is a welcome announcement for Coleraine and indeed the Borough, including the confirmation of new jobs and investment for the area. Lidl NI’s investment and growing presence in the locality and region is fantastic news for both shoppers and the wider community in Coleraine. I am keen to see the progress of this new store and look forward to its opening in due course.”

Earlier this year, Lidl Northern Ireland celebrated its 25th anniversary in the region and announced a record £360 million investment into the local economy last year, supporting nearly 6,900 jobs, including 1,300 direct employees. The retailer also committed an additional £150 million for new store expansions as part of its plan to increase its network to 50 stores by the end of the decade.

We look forward to delivering the project on behalf of our valued client, Lidl, Northern Ireland.
