The works comprise the provision of a new hydro turbine installation, utilising an Archimedean Screw hydro turbine, and associated electrical and civil engineering works. Due to environmental restrictions the works will be carried out in two phases.
Phase 1 – Culvert, powerhouse, ducting and chambers to the leisure centre
Phase 2 – Screw trough, outfall and fish pass, intake chamber, switchgear and Commissioning.
The development of the hydro scheme (Rated at 121 kilowatts) on the Camowen River will generate sufficient power to meet the needs of Omagh Leisure Complex with excess electricity sold back to the national grid.
