With 1 in 4 of us suffering from a mental health problem every year we decided to focus on this recently during Mental Health Awareness Week. In the construction industry in particular we all need to be aware of issues and how to improve our own mental health.
We sent out a series of emails each day with information looking at how 5 different areas can help your mental health. On day one we looked at the importance of sleep and how you can improve this through good sleep hygiene. Day two saw us focusing on keeping active which can lower your risk of depression, we went for a 30 minute lunch time walk and came back refreshed for the afternoon ahead.
The fourth day focused on the importance of friends and family to offer support and some grounding techniques to do when feeling overwhelmed. We also looked at how staff member’s hobbies can help them to de-stress and give another focus. On the last day we tried out some mood boosting foods at tea break time at head office and Kegworth regional office.
